Faced with slower sales, increasing inventory, and financial unrest in the mortgage industry, real estate advertising has taken a hit, with most national brands reducing or eliminating outright their budgets for broad-based television and radio commercials.
The significant exception to this trend is RE/MAX and it's most recognized industry logo, the red, white and blue giant hot air balloon, whose advertising campaign keeps their agents names and customers' listings out in front amidst a clutter of available properties for sale.
"Since we're privately owned by Realtors and Brokers-as opposed to corporate stockholders-we know the last thing sellers need in this economy is for their real estate company to reduce advertising," said Richard Filip, CEO, RE/MAX of Texas. "We know that people are moving to Texas from all over the country, and our continued saturation of 28 network and cable TV channels is telling consumers that this is still the best time in history to buy a house, and that their local RE/MAX associate is the most well-qualified to help them make a great deal."
Nielsen Monitor-Plus said RE/MAX captured 77% of all nationally broadcast real estate advertising on television between January and May, 2009. RE/MAX additionally sponsors coast-to-coast radio broadcasts of high-profile events such as the NCAA Final Four, the Super Bowl, and a host of regular business talk, sports talk, and music countdown programs. The strategy has given RE/MAX agents and their selling clients the largest, most heavily advertised and frequently visited real estate company website in the world, remax.com.
"More Texas Buyers use RE/MAX than any other real estate company," Filip continued, "and that trend is accelerating due in part to our ongoing commitment to advertising at the national, state and regional levels to reach the highest possible number of prospective customers. Sellers know the value and power of our national campaign, and see the results in the traffic it generates."
RE/MAX has donated nearly $100 million to local children's charity hospitals through Children's Miracle Network, and is a strong supporter of the Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and other charities supporting U.S. Military Personnel.
